The renovation of this Lookout Mountain home juxtaposes modern design influences with traditional architecture. The existing square footage is 1,840 square feet and the addition of 3,346 square feet will almost triple the size to 5,166 square feet. The addition will include three new bedrooms, including a master suite on the main floor, two bedrooms on the lower level plus garage and media room. The redesign relocates the front door and highlights the entryway. A limestone feature wall will screen the front door from the road while a low profile overhang will protect from the elements. The sloping site presents challenges for using outdoor spaces. To compensate for this challenge a modern section with a rooftop deck will be built, which takes advantage of the site’s city and mountain views. Exterior materials include a variety of treatments of fiber cement board siding providing a low-maintenance, cost-effective and fire-resistant solution.
