John Rowland is inspired by collaboration with clients, artists and other design practitioners.  All projects have unique contextual relationships that require an intrinsic integration of art, space and light.

As founding partner in 2003, John’s focus has not only been on design, but also strategically positioning Rowland+Broughton into the ‘art of doing business’.  His belief that inter-office infrastructure, quality control standards and culture are the foundation for achieving long-range firm goals. This business model has led to over seven years of success for Rowland+Broughton Architecture in Aspen and Denver, Colorado.

John is involved on all projects and his leadership is the inspiration from which the firm excels. He specializes in custom residential home design, urban infill and property master planning. His experience working on various scales of projects enables the firm to work on a variety of architectural, interior and urban design projects.

John led the efforts in achieving AIA Colorado’s 2009 Young Firm of the Year accolade adding to 14 awards in the past seven years. Rowland+Broughton projects have been featured in over 25 print publications. The context and story behind each project is typicallly unique and provides content about architecture and design that appeals to the design community.

John received his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in 1996 from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Prior to R+B, John’s professional experience includes working in firms domestically and abroad; Sydney, Australia, New York, NY and Aspen, CO.  He has served on the City of Aspen Planning & Zoning Commission, as well as the Aspen Civic Master Plan Advisory Committee and City of Aspen Build-Out Advisory Committee. John holds expertise in stewarding projects through the public approval process.
