Sustainability
Sustainability is all encompassing for Rowland+Broughton. As a company, we strive to use less, buy local and be as efficient as possible. As a forward-thinking architecture and design firm, R+B aims to incorporate sustainability into every project. This is achieved by listening to our clients, researching new green technologies, then testing materials and applications before applying our findings to satisfy our client’s design goals. As a result, we strengthen our own knowledge and skills to be stewards to the environment for a greener future.
The foundation of our sustainable practice lies in our experience in the re-use and re-purpose of existing structures including residential and commercial buildings. No two buildings are alike and we learn something new each time we embark on a new renovation project. The process of saving the most essential part of a building and adding value to the structure by incorporating energy efficient components that demand less of the environment is the essence of sustainability.
Many of our projects are renovations. The knowledge we acquire with renovations typically is a launching point for ground up projects as similar sustainable concepts are applied. Other key factors come into play when we are quantifying the sustainability of a place. These can include transportation, not only in the origin and shipping of materials but in the access to public transportation or the proximity of a place in relation to walking distance to amenities. All aspects of life are assessed in order to achieve the highest degree of sustainability.
At R+B we take our commitment to sustainability seriously. We educate ourselves through practice and research, and team with our clients to achieve our shared goals of a sustainable future, one project at a time.
