The Visual Artist is the ‘imagination’ of R+B! The Visual Artist makes creative decisions that bring our architectural concepts to life through exceptional photorealistic renderings.

The Visual Artist is responsible for…

  • Research, introduce and drive new modeling and rendering concepts firmwide
  • Implement standards and procedures on new modeling and rendering concepts, train team
  • Independently producing photorealistic renderings, artistic and detailed design drawings that effectively convey concepts and designs to clients, architects, interior designers, urban planners, contractors and other design professionals.
  • Foster project team to push design innovation
  • Mentor and guide visual team
  • Responsible for tracking, interpreting, organizing and disseminating information
  • Ongoing and consistent quality control review of documentation and specifications, implementation and monitoring of quality assurance standards
  • Reviewing their own work before handing over to their supervisor
  • Ensuring they and the team are always operating with a sense of urgency
  • Encouraging teamwork and positive communications
  • Exploring, investigating, and driving new visualization technologies to be cutting edge
  • Exploring and investigating current building sciences and materials and their applicability to projects
  • Researching and maintaining current knowledge of building, zoning, energy, accessibility, and other relevant codes as they apply to each project providing information to leadership
  • Appropriately documenting and recording of all product, specification, and material research per R+B standards
  • Appropriately applying available design and documentation tools and technology to problem solve, explore, develop, and document design
  • Appropriate implementation of computer, VR/AR, and physical modeling on projects
  • Maintenance of creative lab software and hardware
  • Maintaining knowledge of and effective application of various rendering techniques to effectively communicate
  • Being facile with a variety of software and project development and delivery techniques
  • Train team on all creative lab equipment and software
  • Spec out new software for creative lab alongside leadership team
  • Bring recommendations to leadership for new software and tools that continue to advance workflow
  • Mentor visual artist team in a positive and professional manner
  • Onboard and train new visual artists
  • Advancing technical skills with additional software and/or other training
  • Has a bachelor's degree in architecture or related degree from an accredited program
  • Ability to create and manage an easy-to navigate 3d asset library accessible to the firm’s other visualization artists
  • Exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and use of standard techniques, solves typical and conventional problems when encountered, and receives guidance on unusual or complex design problems
  • Demonstrates competence in most typical aspects of architecture
  • Able to coordinate with outside rendering agencies on projects deemed too large or deadline intensive to do in-house
  • Ability to produce conceptual illustrations, diagrams, as well as artistic and photorealistic renderings
  • Proficient in 3D modeling, rendering, REVIT, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Vray, 3ds Max, Rhino, Grasshopper, Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with VR walkthroughs and setups a plus
  • Adheres to the Work Plan and may assist in developing portions in conjunction with the Project Manager

  • Has 8 or more years of experience or demonstrated equivalence
  • Salary Range: $75,000- 98,000 (salary DOE, licensure, and location)
