Commercial, Specialty, Interior - Commercial

Elevating the interior of a Gulfstream G550 for an Aspen client, a licensed pilot and owner of multiple planes who often flies with his wife and extended family and their dogs, was a high-level experience for our team.

Materials and finishes were meticulously selected with the client’s sensibilities and in-flight lifestyle in mind, as well as to complement existing granite and African Bubinga hardwood paneling.

Supplementing professional design knowledge and experience, consideration of requirements unique to aviation, such as high fire ratings for materials, was key. Undertaking the project on a tight deadline while the plane was out for inspection at Duncan Aviation in Salt Lake City (which among other things involved removing all interior elements) provided both opportunities and challenges.

Description

Pillow fabric, the neutral grey, cream, charcoal, and taupe colors selected from 200 different color “poms,” was chosen for a custom tufted carpet running the length of dual living/dining areas. Prior to installation, the team utilized visualization techniques to ensure precise placement of the carpet’s striped line pattern, which referenced the client’s professional work and also accentuated the 96-foot-long aircraft.

We laid out the seats and divans on the custom carpet multiple times to see what would show the best layout of the pattern in the carpet.

To enrich surrounding finishes, divans were recovered with textural sage green chenille and Bouclé fabric. Upper wall panels were refinished in light cotton, linen, and bamboo fabric. Seats and lower side panels were reupholstered in matching leather.
