Celebrating Art and Architecture

Design | The Lookout House | Aspen, CO

Responding to the dramatic beauty of its setting, a steep site with panoramic views of Aspen ski mountains, was a major directive in the overall design of this highly customized Aspen home.

Throughout the home, proportion, scale, light, and materials are perfectly balanced. Interior elements include oak flooring and millwork, neutral painted walls and ceilings, concrete, and stone. The artwork is integrated seamlessly with the architecture.

The reconfigured floor plan organizes public and private spaces, creating a flow that accommodates the client’s lifestyle and work.

Within the entry, which also functions as an art gallery, public and private areas are bridged by a floating interior stairway topped with a translucent steel landing.

With functionality in mind, custom built-in cabinetry such as a walnut cabinet system in the dining room conceals storage. The owners’ significant art collection is complemented by sculptural furnishings.

Multiple gathering areas oriented toward mountain views encourage an indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
