Harmony | Bagua House | Aspen, CO
R+B’s design principles for this residence are known as ‘bagua’, a fundamental aspect of Feng Shui that harmonizes spatial relationships to promote energy, balance, and flow.
The journey into the home begins at an elegant open steel portal, leading into a serene garden courtyard. Here, weathered flagstone pavers and vertical cedar wood siding are beautifully complemented by large French doors that seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor spaces. The large format entry door is Shou-Sugi-Ban wood with bronze patina disc pull.

Inside, the design masterfully transitions from expansive double-height spaces – such as the open living and dining great room – to intimate areas accessed through light-filled corridors. Stunning views and outdoor living spaces are framed by floor-to-ceiling steel windows and doors, creating a seamless connection to nature. Clerestory windows further enhance the interior, flooding the central volume with abundant natural light.

Intentionally compact in size and focused on restful retreat, the family bedrooms connect to a communal “kid’s corner,” fostering interaction and playfulness. The primary suite is thoughtfully crafted to promote health and well-being, featuring custom Bikram yoga and exercise studio that seamlessly integrate with the space. This sanctuary opens directly to a stunning 75-foot-long, all-season lap pool, enhancing both relaxation and vitality.

Throughout the home, the interior design artfully blends soft textural finishes, natural materials, well-proportioned furnishings, and thoughtfully curated artwork. A harmonious integration of active and passive energy systems – including a 70-panel photovoltaic array, extensive daylighting and glazing, and motorized clerestory windows – ensures the residence is both sustainable and efficient.
Ultimately, the spirit of the design culminates in a profoundly serene and harmonious sense of place.
