We are excited to share our latest project, Sage Hill. This mountain residence is sited with spectacular views of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Its creation represents a central theme of R+B’s residential practice: designing multivalent homes, at a scale both responsive to and indicative of their settings, that remain deeply personal to their inhabitants
Guided by Rowland+Broughton’s convergent method, Sage Hill embodies our belief that meaningful, timeless design is born from the deliberate integration of architecture, interiors, landscape, and craftsmanship. This philosophy, rooted in both tradition and innovation, ensures that every project expresses not just place, but also the people who call it home.
The house both commands its surroundings and defers to them. Lightly nestled into the site and surrounded by native trees, the home rests on a stone plinth that emerges from the gentle slope to overlook the adjacent bucolic valley. The exterior is clad in a Danish brick that reveals the appealing irregularity of hand-making, laid up in overlapping horizontal layers like wood shiplap, thereby combining the rugged majesty of the landscape with the simple elegance of a rural building tradition. Within, you will find an interior reflective of the outdoors including biophilic features such as walls finished entirely in white oak—natural, textured, and sustainable—enclosing a sanctuary of tranquility and beauty, shaped by pan-cultural craft and custom designs.
Artisans at Sage Hill
Collaboration with artisans is a critical design component within Sage Hill, and each piece embodies the client’s values while complementing the architecture. Sage Hill features partnerships with designers including Lee Broom, David Wiseman, Bocci, Jacopo Foggini, Hun Chung Lee, and Serban Ionescu, as well as WonderGlass, who contributed to the design of the Amazing Grace Railing and Genesis Art Piece below.
Amazing Grace Railing
One of Sage Hill’s signature elements is a Venetian-made stained glass guardrail, spanning the full length of the double-height living room’s mezzanine, for which we designed a pattern based on the score of the great hymn ‘Amazing Grace’ – a gesture of bravura in both conception and execution, and humble in spirit and reverent in its intent. Thanks to our partners WonderGlass for their collaboration and expertise!

Genesis Art Piece
“One of the most memorable moments of the Sage Hill project was during the production of the Genesis glass cap, a large central dome of green floating glass, textured and curved using a steel mold. With a diameter of about 1.6 meters (5.25 feet), it was both technically complex and visually striking, and witnessing its form take shape was a rewarding achievement.”
