Residential, Custom Homes
The Mesa Jardin is nestled along Aspen’s historic Main Street and adjacent to the locally landmarked Mesa Store. The new residence will create a bridge between the Mesa Store building to its east and the single-story historic residence to its west. The building form is a simple gable with single story elements on main street and the alley.
The design was inspired by the false store-front building that once occupied the property, of which the simplicity of the gable form is reveal behind the deconstructed false front that is now the covered entry and garden roof deck above. The two gable walls on the upper Mesa level great room are fully infilled with glass to further expresses the gable volume. The warm wood wall and ceiling slide out through the glass walls and brings indoor/outdoor connectivity to the roof deck gardens. The use of material, color and details explore the relationship between residential historic typologies; entry porch with columns, gable roof, and hierarchy of the fenestration that indicated circulation and program within.
