Riverside Retreat

New Build | Respite | Aspen, CO

Sitting effortlessly along the banks of Aspen’s “Gold Medal” Roaring Fork River, this 3,500 square foot family fishing retreat embraces the narrow, forested site.

Derived from the launch position of the classic arc of a fly fisherman’s basic casting stroke, the simple shed roof form establishes the singular exterior palette.

The project was completed in close collaboration with Elisabeth McCabe and Caroline Finkelstein of Houston-based Ecco Design.

Communal spaces, including the open plan kitchen, dining room, living area, and the primary suite, are located on the upper level, which features vaulted ceilings and is flooded with natural light. Large sliding patio doors opening onto a south-facing deck bring the river environment inside and frame mountain views in the distance.

Opening to a riverside patio, the ground level features a pair of guest bedroom, a kids’ bunk room, a mud room and garage.
