Description

Surrounded by forest and set within a pastoral meadow in Aiken, South Carolina, this jewel box embraces the principles of modernist architect Mies van der Rohe while responding to and accommodating today’s sensibilities and lifestyles.

Designed as a retreat for a business-owner couple, the one-bedroom, single-level home features expansive glass windows and operable sliding glass doors. A covered terrace cascades down to an open patio which provides for outdoor entertaining and views of the horses in the meadow.

The kitchen and linear programming of the home reveals communal dining, living, and seating areas, respectively, which overlook a cascading hill and ravine. A private bed and bath suite is tucked into the far corner of the home. Overall, white on white materials and finishes both complement and contrast with the natural surroundings.
